‘Arena’ Opening Reception March 6th, 6-9pm Kimoto Gallery

My new series will be exhibiting at Kimoto Gallery for the month of March, if your in Vancouver please join us for the Opening on March 6th 6-9pm. The work will up for viewing until March 28th within the gallery hours.

‘Arena’ marks a new exploration that studies elements of form in recreational landscapes. Partly inspired by a youth spent on soccer fields and backyard basketball courts, Sueme aims to capture the unconsidered stillness and geometry designed for regulation in courts, pools, and public spaces. A use of flat colour refines elements to their basic structure while a textural underpainting allows for complexity and variance. The geometric forms create a sense of depth with an emphasis on perspective and pattern set in playful and inviting spaces.

‘The balance between our desire to create spontaneously and to be bound by rules is something I find present in both painting and in our most entertaining games and sports. In this series each piece suggests an anticipation for action, play, or familiar recollection.’  -Scott Sueme 2015

Abbottsfield Recreation Centre in Edmonton

This project has been in the works for me for quite some time now – I was fortunate enough to be asked to work on a project with the City of Edmonton to create a massive mural for a brand new recreation centre in Edmonton. The project first consisted of a couple community workshops in January and with Painting scheduled for the end of May. I started the wall and ran into a bad streak of weather – Im hoping to now have it finished by Mid July. Im really excited to see this one come together, Heres some process shots from May.
